Recording a Broadcast Survey

1. Recordings for each of the elements in your script will need to be created.

2. To add a recording to one of your Script Elements, click New Recording.

3. Name your recording with the date recorded and topic so you can easily identify it at a later step

4. There are two options to record the script

a) Upload .wav or .mp3 files – This the best option if you have a microphone, a computer and recording software because the sound quality will be better. Simply record the message outside of Liberalist, make sure it’s the right length, and use the Upload a .wav or .mp3 file option to upload your message to Liberalist.

b) Receive a call-in phone number and PIN – This is a very simple option, allowing you or the person who is recording to do so over the phone by following a few simple instructions.

c) Select “Receive a call-in phone number and PIN”

d) Enter the maximum length of the recording and enter the email address where you would like the recording instructions to be sent.

e) Click Save.

Voice Broadcast Recording

f) Liberalist will send an email with instructions on calling in and walk you through the process of recording the Broadcast Survey message. These same instructions will also pop up in your browser. If the person who is recording the message is not with you, you can forward the instructions to them. When they save their recording, it will pop up in Liberalist.

REMINDER: Please note that since you have multiple script elements, each element will need to be recorded separately.

g) Repeat steps a) through d) to record each of your script elements.

IMPORTANT: Remember to press 3 to save once you are satisfied with the recording. If you do not press 3, your recording will not be saved and you will have to restart the process from scratch.

h) Question Script Element: If you’ve chosen a Liberalist Survey Question as your Question script element, you will be given a list of potential answers. You can tailor these potential answers while recording the message. You do not need to record every answer on the list. For example, if you’re only interested in knowing if contacted individuals are Liberal, PC or NDP, you can limit possible responses by only recording your preferred options.

Sample - preferred options

For example, the recording for the above script element could be “How are you planning to vote on June 12th? For Liberal, press 1, for Progressive Conservative, press 3, and for NDP, press 4.”

i) Once you’ve created a recording for all script elements, select each of the script elements from the dropdown menus in the “Recording” column.

6. You can now test the Broadcast Survey by inputting your phone number in the Test Number field. You will be called momentarily and will hear your message in its entirety. Make sure to say “Hello” when you receive the test call as this is how the Broadcast Survey knows to start playing the message.

7. For quality assurance purposes, you should test all possible responses. This is also an excellent opportunity to review CRTC Telemarketing Rules for Political Candidates, Parties and Organizations (available here: http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/info_sht/t1041.htm).

Your recording MUST include the following information at the beginning of the Broadcast Survey:

  • Identify the name of the caller or candidate
  • Identify the organization on whose behalf the call was made (e.g. your campaign)
  • Identify a local or toll free phone number for your team
  • Identify the address or email address of your team

If your message is longer than 60 seconds, you must repeat the phone number and address at the end of the call.

8. If you’re satisfied with the recording. You’re ready to go! In the event that you want to rerecord elements of your script, click “Edit” and “New Recording”.
