Using Your Liberalist ‘Targets’ – A List Building Tool
UPDATE : Each week we’ll be updating the Tier 1 – 5 lists in Liberalist. You will see the number of voters change over time. Don’t worry! That’s normal. We are refining the tool over time.
As we approach the election, we want to make sure teams are equipped with the resources they need to run strong campaigns in the most efficient way possible. In order to make list creation easier and canvassing more effective, targets (pre-made lists) have been set up to help your team quickly create canvassing lists, allowing your team to talk to voters faster.
What are Targets (pre-made lists) ?
Targets are pre-set dynamic lists that have been set up with all the criteria required to make your canvassing as efficient as possible. There are two types of Targets – Tier lists and Remove Lists.
What are the 5 Tiers?
Targets are divided into 5 tiers based on two attributes: how likely an individual is to support the LPC and how likely that person is to vote – based on a variety of data points.
Individuals in Tier 1 represent the very best targets; they are most likely to support the LPC and very likely to vote. Individuals in Tier 5 represent targets that are much less likely to support the LPC and are unlikely to turnout to vote.
The Tiers will be updated every week to reflect new canvassing and polling data.
Your Removal Lists
Your removal targets will remove anyone that has been contacted recently, has voted, has moved, or that we have already tracked a political affiliation. The Removal Targets are used to easily remove anyone who shouldn’t be canvassed at this time. This will allow you to optimize your list for phone calling or door canvassing by ensuring that we are not recanvassing voters. The removal targets are updated nightly.

How do Targets work?
All of these Target lists are “householded”, meaning that all individuals at a given household belong to the same Tier. This makes canvassing more efficient and prevents your team from contacting the same household multiple times. Results of a canvass will also be householded, meaning that if one person is canvassed and identified as Liberal at an address, everyone at the address will then be removed from the list and added into the Removal Target.

To create your list for Door Canvassing, first determine where you want to canvass and select the polls for that area from the Addresses module on the Create a List page.
Next, scroll down and open the Targets module. Tick the boxes next to the tiers you want to canvass. Generally, you will start with canvassing Tiers 1 to 3 or 1 to 4 depending on your riding.
Then, to remove anyone we don’t want to canvass, click on “+ Add Step” and select “Remove People”. Now, go back to the Targets module and tick the Remove list appropriate for the method of canvassing you are doing. Because you are door knocking, tick DOOR: REMOVE List.

You will follow a similar process to generate your phone calling lists. Simply scroll down to the Targets module, and select your highest tier first (Tier 1). You will then work your way down the tiers as you get through your first call list.
Next, you must Add a Step to Remove People who we have already spoken with. Go back to the Targets module and tick the PHONES: REMOVE List. Now you can run your search!
