Voter File update and New Polls
June 26, 2019
Earlier this week, the National Voter File was updated in Liberalist. As a result of this update, your riding’s polling divisions have been updated. Elections Canada has changed the shape and numbering of many polls across the country.
For example :
- Poll 1 from 2015 might now be Poll 23.
- The voters in Poll 1 from 2015 might be distributed across multiple new Polls, due to a change in the shape of the polls.
What does this mean for you?
You will see a change in the list of Priority Polls in your Campaign Dashboard. Your dashboard will be automatically updated to reflect the new poll numbers that you should focus on when canvassing.
Additionally, if your team was tracking lit drops using the old poll numbers, your tracking spreadsheet will now have changed.
What are we doing to help?
You can access a sheet that shows the old poll # matched to the new poll # in the Canvass Here tab of the Campaign Dashboard.
In some cases the shape of the polls have also changed, this means that voters from the old poll will be split between multiple new polls. The sheet will show where the majority of voters ended up, with the “pct” column showing how many voters are in the new poll.
In July, we will append this data to the Canvass Here tab in the Campaign Dashboard.
Elections Canada will be going live with their Political Entities Service Centre online portal. This portal will be used for e-nominations and provide other materials like maps and elector lists, as well as give local campaigns access to updated poll maps.
